House to Vote on FY07 Budget

It is very likely that the House will consider its FY07 budget as early as Thursday, April 5. Currently, the House budget resolution closely resembles the Administration’s budget proposal in that it cuts funding for education, social services and employment and training programs by nearly $5 billion. If passed, this drastic cut in funding to these programs would likely result in massive cuts to education programs, including Perkins.

NEXT STEPS: The Senate has already passed their FY07 budget, which included a $16 billion increase over the Administration’s proposal. Once the House bill has passed, the differences between the House and Senate bills will be worked out in conference committee.
