Issue

On Wednesday, May 4, the House will be voting on final passage of H.R. 366, the Vocational and Technical Education for the Future Act. H.R. 366 is the House version of Perkins reauthorization.

Background

While H.R. 366 addresses many of NASDCTEc’s legislative priorities, it still reduces state administration to 2%. So why advocate for its passage? If H.R. 366 does not pass the House of Representatives, Perkins reauthorization would be stalled – thus opening the door for those who wish to eliminate Perkins. Passage of the bill takes us to the next stage in the reauthorization process- conference committee - where the differences between H.R. 366 and S. 250 will be worked out. NASDCTEc believes that moving H.R. 366 forward is in CTE’s best interest.

The Senate’s Perkins reauthorization bill, S. 250, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2005, passed by a vote of 99-0 in mid-March.

Action

Ask your members in the House of Representatives to support passage of H.R. 366!

When contacting your members of Congress it is important to note that while you support the passage of H.R. 366, it is not without reservation. Remind them that we oppose H.R. 366’s cut in state administration funding and hope that this issue is resolved in conference.
